What to Ship and What to Sell

- Ship it. Solid wood furniture, heirlooms, mattresses you like, and anything hard to replace. Dry air will treat them well.

Agricultural inspection applies to household goods leaving Hawaii. Potted plants, garden soil, fresh fruit, and seeds cannot go in the container. So empty the planters, wash the garden tools, and knock the dirt off the hiking boots. Coral and lava rock should stay too. Surfboards and beach gear travel fine, though you may use them less in the desert.
Cars and Pets
Your car ships separately on its own booking, usually to Long Beach as well. It needs to be clean, run down to about a quarter tank, and emptied of everything except the jack and spare. From the port, you can drive it to Vegas yourself or have it trucked. Pets fly. Leaving Hawaii is easier than arriving, because quarantine rules apply to animals coming in, not going out. Book the flight early, because summer heat embargoes can block pets from cargo travel into Las Vegas.

Henderson draws the largest share, especially the Green Valley area. Summerlin pulls families who want newer schools on the west side.
